Territory and urban economy: indicators and cartography

Abstract

The urban management has been increasingly facing the challenge to improve local development policies allowing the leverage of its productive capacity supported by suitable strategies  complying with its characteristics. In this sense, this paper aims to present a study applied to the city of Sao Paulo to discuss its main information groundings and to sketch a qualitative analysis of its economic characteristics. After pointing out the relation between the metropolis and the national territory, this study discusses the main intra-urban economy databases and the suitable cartographic representation techniques to understand the relation between economy and space in the city of Sao Paulo.
